Rockefeller Center Park Concept
Amongst the beautiful and expansive urban landscape of New York City, Rockefeller Center holds court as the epicenter of the world. With a rich history in innovation, industry, and spirit, this “city within a city” forged a new path by offering a park experience like no other. The proposal called for 49th and 50th Streets, between 5th and 6th Avenue, to be closed to vehicular traffic. These streets surrounding the Rock Center Plaza would become temp-to-perm public greenspace.

Rockefeller Center’s steadfast commitment towards public art—alongside its continued adherence to enriching the city, its tenants and visiters alike—acts as the platform for this new public landscape to be thoughtfully designed in order to feed the soul of New York and the people who inhabit it. Embedded within the park’s architecture are artful installations dedicated to the essential motivations behind why we, as humans, gravitate towards parks. The attributes of Community, Play and Reflection are celebrated, each in a unique and experiential way.
